A fabulous Antique bar brooch from the turn of the 20th Century depicting a spider and a fly attached to a fine gold chain. Both are fashioned in 9ct Yellow Gold and set with cultured Pearls and two blue Aquamarines (0.25ct & 0.50ct).
Insect became popular at the turn of the 20th Century due to a renewed love of the natural world following the vast urbanisation of the country and were often decorated with colourful gemstones to enhance their beauty and value.
It’s a wonderful and highly collectable piece and fitted with a strong pin that holds it securely in place.
